Prototyping Case Studies
Chargem™
Chargem™ is a charging station for the multiple charging of up to six mobile products at a time, using a single plug socket. Innovate Prototypes developed the casing using CAD, whilst fully considering the final manufacturing process and material selection. The electronics were developed alongside the casing, ensuring adequate ventilation was maintained whilst keeping the size, and consequently the unit cost, to a minimum. Chargem™ is now entering the production phase and has been recently featured in NewDesign magazine. Use this link for full details: Innovate in NewDesign magazine.
“Following some online research, I called numerous organisations and found that Innovate were the most helpful and professional, portraying enthusiasm and willingness to work on the project, in order to move it forward with a positive outlook.” Delia Strand, Chargem™, Logical Gadgets.
“This space saving device required some development, which is where Innovate really helped speed up the project. Their communication was second to none, with regular contact and updates at each stage of the project. Without their creativity and complete understanding of the requirements of Logical Gadgets, we would not have such a slick and funky product design. Throughout our development journey, we have found Innovate to be very professional, informative and knowledgeable of the work they have carried out for us.”
Cone Champ™
Cone Champ™ is a device for picking up sports marker cones. It makes clearing up after sports practice quicker and easier. Innovate produced presentation boards to assess interest in the idea and a working prototype was then developed to prove the concept. A commercial partner was sourced in order to produce Cone Champ and terms and conditions were negotiated.
Innovate was then commissioned to further develop the product for economic manufacture. Following the production and testing of further prototypes, production data and engineering drawings were sent to an injection moulding company, in Germany, to produce the mould tools and plastic parts.
Cone Champ was entered for the ISPO Brand New Award (an International Award for New Sports Products), where it was short listed by the judges and achieved joint second place, out of eighty entries, in an online vote. Cone Champ is currently selling well in 15 countries.
Tea Tool™
Tea Tool is an ingenious invention for squeezing the last drop of tea out of a tea bag. The inventor contacted Innovate with his initial idea and we completed design work for the product, followed by extensive mechanism development. The device needed to work effectively whilst being as simple as possible, to keep the cost down.
Our team of design engineers built several basic prototypes to establish a way of using just one spring to get both the squeezing and releasing movement. A final prototype was built, using rapid laser prototyping from the CAD data we created. The final result was a cost effective solution with excellent functionality.
Tea tool was then put into production, in the UK, from the CAD data used to produce the prototype. Tea Tool now has its own web site and has been on sale since 2004.
